Meet Devene , Founder & Trainer

Founded by Devene Villanueva, Realistic Dog Training LLC was built from hands-on experience that began in 2020 with training her own dogs and later grew into helping other owners build better communication, structure, and control with their dogs.

Realistic Dog Training focuses on practical obedience, leash handling, owner coaching, and preparing dogs for real-life situations. Every dog is different, so training is adjusted to the dog’s behavior, temperament, and the owner’s goals.

The goal is to help owners feel more confident handling their dogs at home, in public, and throughout everyday life.

Building Better Dogs Through Better Handling

Private, one-on-one training that teaches you how to confidently handle your dog — building structure, obedience, and real-life reliability.

Clear Communication Starts With the Right Approach

Training isn’t just about commands — it’s about how you communicate with your dog.
Proper handling, timing, and structure all play a role in helping your dog understand what’s expected.

Training That Builds Confidence—for You and Your Dog

Each program is designed to build clarity and confidence for both you and your dog.
You’ll learn how to confidently handle real-world situations so you can maintain results long after training is complete.

    Iven & Kettlebell

I can’t recommend Realistic Dog Training enough!

Next week will be our last week of training and our dogs have come such a long way. Iven went from not walking on a leash with a stranger and freaking out over the littlest thing to crossing a wobble bridge while strange children were playing around him. Ketty super high energy, but she’s so eager to please.

Today I was able to heel both dogs while holding the leashes in one hand at the park. No stress no thrashing and tangling with each other. Next week for our final I’ll be walking them together in some pet friendly stores.

Don’t get me wrong my dogs still need some work (I haven’t exactly been inundated with spare time to train during the week) but the improvements are leaps and bounds and I have the tools I need now to continue improving more and more.

If your dogs need some work reach out to Realistic Dog Training you won’t regret it.

    Katana Review 1

Katana was 5 months old and 58 pounds when I adopted her.  Not knowing what the foster mom had taught Katana, I made the decision to take her to obedience training, which was a start, but I didn’t spend enough time with her afterwards, which was a mistake on my part.

A friend of mine mentioned Realistic Dog Training to me because her daughter had success with her two dogs, so I decided to give Devene a call.

Devene was/is very professional and easy to work with.  She communicated if she was going to be early or late to our sessions, which is a rarity in today’s world.  This may not sound like a game changer for you, but for me, it is.  She far exceeded my expectations as a dog trainer.  She listened to my concerns and made relevant suggestions.  I could text her with comments and/or questions and she responded promptly.  I never felt as if she was in a hurry to leave.  If we were in the middle of training Katana, Devene stayed with it until Katana was at a good stopping point.

The introduction of the e-collar has been a game changer for me.  Katana is very head strong and I had difficulty getting her to pay attention to me.  The prong collar worked to a point, but the far reach of the e-collar is invaluable.

I would and have suggested using Realistic Dog Training to anyone having behavioral issues with their dogs.

    Katana Review 2

This is an update to my earlier review. I am so happy Devene with Realistic Dog Training LLC helped me with Katana. Devenee is very patient with the owner AND the dog! She shows up on time and isn't in a hurry to leave. Katana has made so much progress by my learning and implementing the information Devene taught us. I would highly recommend Realistic Dog Training LLCng to anyone with an out-of-control dog or just a dog with a mind of it's own. The one-on-one sessions were perfect for me and Katana. Thanks for being there when we needed the help.

Some of the things Devene taught me was how to get Katana to go into her crate. This may sound simple, but when you have a dog who wants to meet everyone and everything she sees and weighs 70+ pounds, it is a very handy tool to have in your arsenal. We have also perfected "stay" and "break" when chasing a ball. We still need to work on come and down while off leash, but I haven't worked with Katana enough on my own.

The smaller prong collar was a start, but the e-collar was a game-changer! I highly suggest using one on a high prey drive dog.

Katana is a contortionist! I have added some photos of some of the positions she gets herself into.— Nannette K.
